HOW CHINA REGULATES FINANCIAL INNOVATION

HOW CHINA REGULATES FINANCIAL INNOVATION

by Martin Chorzempa Master (NPA/ID) Candidate HARVARD Kennedy School  CrowdfundBeat Guest post. In this blog’s inaugural post, I outline my hypothesis about China’s regulatory approach to developments in Chinese finance. These observations are based on two years working and living in Beijing, much of which in an organization that led to frequent interaction with Chinese financial policymakers, scholars, and financiers. Chinese reform in general has followed a time-tested method of slow liberalization, the famous “crossing the river by feeling stones” but the Internet has turned this process on its head. The internet did not exist when the command economy was in force, so the Chinese never developed a large Soviet-style bureaucracy…

What is the opportunity with Title III crowdfunding?

What is the opportunity with Title III crowdfunding?

There have been a couple threads on equity crowdfunding here, but with Title III funding portals getting much closer to launching, I’m trying to puzzle out what those first portals are going to look like… and will these be filled with the dregs of the investment world as most existing equity portals believe. The basic argument is that there is a vast over-abundance of capital from both institutional and accredited individual investors, and the better companies will get access to that through venture firms, professional angel investors/syndicates and 506(c) type funding portals. What’s left over gets dumped into Title III portals where less affluent investors…

The Founder of Kickstarter on Why He’s “Not Some Rich Tech Dude With a Tesla”

The Founder of Kickstarter on Why He’s “Not Some Rich Tech Dude With a Tesla”

By Mallory Greene @wealthsimple.com Crowdfundbeat Guest Post My parents split up when I was 10, and it felt like they were consumed with that drama for years. My sister and I ended up living with our dad, who’s an international marketing consultant. He’d always joke, “I don’t really know what that means, but that’s what I do.” Being the classic Midwestern midcentury stoic dude, he wanted to protect us from any financial stresses, but at times, we were close to tatters, times when my dad had lost his job and couldn’t make rent for his apartment. He could only hide it so much—some situation or…

The Crowdfunding’s Industry Evolution

The Crowdfunding’s Industry Evolution

CrowdFundBeat News Wire,By Kostas Kotsiopoulos, Global Sales Director at Profile Software. Since the launch of the first crowdfunding platform in Europe the industry has experienced immense changes. The financial crisis along with the new regulations created the need for alternative finance and banking models. These may well include more innovative products and banking proposals, digital media utilisation, big data management and more. The resulting regulatory fines and slowdown of the overall economy added more burden to the banking operations, making financing even more bureaucratic.   In the meantime, while banks were trying to cope with all these changes and struggling to measure and manage liquidity, crowdfunding…

SEC Additional Funding Portal Requirements

SEC Additional Funding Portal Requirements

CrowdFundBeat Data Center,            The United States Securities and Exchange Commission has issued final rules on Regulation Crowdfunding. This post analyzes the “Additional Funding Portal Requirements” and “Miscellaneous” sections of the SEC’s adopting release. Additional Funding Portal Requirements Registration Requirement Securities Act Section 4A(a)(1) requires that an intermediary facilitating a transaction made in reliance on Securities Act Section 4(a)(6) register with the Commission as a broker or a funding portal. The statute does not, however, prescribe the manner in which a funding portal would register with the Commission. Registration will be made through the EDGAR system.  The registration requirements for funding…

Recession Coming? How it affects your Crowdfunding Investing

Recession Coming? How it affects your Crowdfunding Investing

By Mark Robertson CrowdFundBeat  Sr. Contributing Editor. President at CrowdDD, LLC, With the stock market in a virtual free fall and the drumbeat of a recession that is long overdue, what is a real estate crowdfunding investor to do?  The short answer is to be cautious, but do not panic.  Our economy has always been very cyclical and real estate in particular has always had very distinct cycles.  The last 6 years have been highlighted by a very slow and steady recovery from our 2009 lows, but all good things must come to an end and we as investors must be prepared.             No one…

Loving your startup investments is like loving your teenagers

Loving your startup investments is like loving your teenagers

By Audrey Jacobs @OurCrowd VP CrowdFundBeat Guest Editor, “I hate you! Get out of my room!” I doubt you’ll hear the CEO of a startup yell this at you, however when you take the leap to invest in startups, a good way to mentally prepare is to love them the way you love your teenagers. Accepting this mindset will make the journey towards a profitable return enjoyable. Be prepared to stay on top of how they’re doing, accept when they change directions, know they’ll keep asking for money, understand not all your children will excel and know you love them today for who they’ll be tomorrow. Cyber…
