CrowdFunding in China

CrowdFunding in China

By Kaylene Hong, Cowdfunding is still pretty much a novelty in Asia, and in particular China. Though there are a fewhomegrown firms, the concept hasn’t really kicked off as it has in the West yet, with major sites including Kickstarter and Indiegogo still not present within the country.   E-commerce firm JD.com is therefore seeking to be a frontrunner in this space by launching its very own crowdfunding platform, called ‘Coufenzi’ (which means whip-round), as first spotted by Technode. The new platform is managed by JD Finance, which offers internet finance services for its customers.     Marking the debut of Coufenzi are 12 crowdfunding campaigns, of which seven are smart hardware…

Is it time to get in line for Crowdfunding?

By, Sundownrundown.org,  More than two years ago, President Obama signed into law the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act), calling it a “game changer” that would provide a new way to fund startups through crowdfunding. Crowfunding for equity, however, cannot begin until theSecurities and Exchange Commission issues final rules. Despite the hold-ups, some proponents urge entreprneurs to prepare now if they wish to seek funding through the crowd.   The JOBS Act authorizes the use of “crowdfunding,” in which up to $1 million worth of unregistered stock can be sold every 12 months to an unlimited number of mom-and-pop investors. Anyone, not just well-off individuals, can make small investments online.…

‘We’re Crowdfunding our wedding’

‘We’re Crowdfunding our wedding’

By Melanie Hicken,  As weddings get more and more expensive, some couples are turning to friends, relatives and even strangers to help pay for their big day.   Unable to afford a wedding on their own or with the help of their parents, couples are mounting campaigns on crowdfunding websites asking for financial help. Detroit resident Elizabeth Rodriquez, 22, and her fiancé Otoniel Cabrera, 26, turned to crowdfunding site GoFundMe in January — soon after Cabrera lost his job, leaving him out of work for months. So far, the couple has raised around $4,200 from seven donors, which will go towards their $28,000 wedding in April…

40 Epic Resources For Investing In Startups

40 Epic Resources For Investing In Startups

By Zack Miller, When Sequoia Capital invested in Whatsapp, the venture capital firm didn’t know that within a short couple of years, the company would be sold for $19 billion (!). There’s no doubt that this process has made the investment team — and its investors — very rich over the past couple decades. by PAULNIEDERER on JUNE 29, 2014, Success leaves clues. I wondered, what is “Best in Class” in raising funds from predominantly retail or unaccredited investors. Most of these companies were after their first capital, meaning there was usually some sweat equity already, maybe some family money, but most were not ready for Angels or VC’s. Thats why they came to ASSOB.   Bootstrap, then ASSOB, then Angels then VC’s.   Lets determine what is “Best in Class” from the sixteen recent ASSOB raises that raised on total $11.4 million.
