Crowdfunding Inside the Enterprise

Crowdfunding Inside the Enterprise

Whilst the crowdfunding market has boomed, with hundreds of platforms now offering the ability to fund and support a huge range of projects, it’s probably fair to say that the model has not made it’s way inside the enterprise. Sure, you have outliers like the idea market at Rite Solutions that offers funding for the most popular ideas via an internal stock market type arrangement, but they are very much the exception rather than the rule.  This is certainly the case as far as big companies are concerned.  So it’s pretty exciting to learn that IBM are giving internal crowdfunding a trial.  The company is…

Invested.in launches CrowdFunding portal for institutional funds

CrowdFundBeat PR News:  Crowdfunding is not just about startups raising money. Even excluding rewards-based campaigns like those offered by Kickstarter and Indiegogo, so-called equity crowdfunding, the type that represents an investment for ownership in a company or project, can span the gamut of asset classes. And frankly, that’s a good thing, because startup investing simply isn’t a good idea for all aspiring angel investors. But there are other avenues to target high returns. In the past we’ve covered real estate crowdfunding platforms, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Today, SaaS-based crowdfunding technology provider Invested.in is announcing the launch of a new invite-only…

Woodstock Film Festival: Panel sheds light on burgeoning practice

Woodstock Film Festival: Crowdfunding – it isn’t a dirty word “Today, just about everyone I know is doing a crowdfunding thing,” said Meira Blaustein. It’s true. Today’s creative workers are asking their friends, and their friends – and so on, and so on – for both emotional and monetary help to finish their projects. Thanks to the internet, an emerging sense of global collaboration and a greater variety of avenues, it has become easier for creative workers to find funding opportunities. But there is still risk, and there are still issues to tackle when attempting to fund through friends, family and regular people. In the…

Crowdfunding: What’s in It for Scientists?

Crowdfunding: What’s in It for Scientists?

It seemed like no one was willing to take a chance on Louisa Edgerly. She had been working for months to get funding for her research trip to the Republic of Congo—nothing came. Her flight was booked and her equipment ready, but she knew she couldn’t fund herself for two months in the field. In near desperation she created a project campaign on Petridish.org, a science based crowdfunding website. 50 days later, and only two days before her flight, Edgerly had raised $7,330- just over her goal of $7,000. For emerging scientists like Edgerly, crowdfunding offers more than a chance to do research. It is a…

4 Things Entrepreneurs Need to Know About the JOBS Act

4 Things Entrepreneurs Need to Know About the JOBS Act

For many young entrepreneurs, landing startup funding is next to impossible. Banks won’t generally look at you unless you have two years of financials, and investors want to see serious traction before they’ll sign on. So what’s a young trep to do? Enter, crowdfunding. Traditionally, donation based platforms like Kickstarter allow entrepreneurs to appeal to people at large for the capital necessary to start a project or product. In return, funders often receive tangible rewards like a T-shirt, product sample or VIP status. That model is set to change, however. Last year, the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, or JOBS Act, became the law of the…
