IdeasTap Launches Accelerator: Commission-Free Crowdfunding For Creative People

IdeasTap Launches Accelerator: Commission-Free Crowdfunding For Creative People

Clyde Smith | HypeBot | Aug 4, 2014 – IdeasTap is an “arts charity” or nonprofit based in London that supports young creatives with funding, networking tools and information. To further their mission they launched a commission-free crowdfunding platform with “Cash TopUp Funds” for outstanding projects. However Accelerator is for UK residents only and that’s unlikely to change given the UK focus of IdeasTap. According to the Accelerator launch announcement, Peter De Haan founded IdeasTap in 2008: “in response to the first of the arts funding cuts, to empower young creative people through opportunities, seed funding, arts jobs and career development.” This mix is evident…

6 Keys to a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign

6 Keys to a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign

Emily Best | BackStage | July 21, 2014 – So far, we’ve covered how to begin to engage your community (long before you think of crowdfunding!) and everything you need to consider leading up to the launch of a campaign. But let’s talk about execution and aftermath. Crowdfunding, like filmmaking, is won and lost in the prep. That said, you can’t just take a campaign live and hope everyone flocks to it. Each day requires careful maintenance, and the name of the game is momentum. Each day your campaign updates, emails and social media posts should be telling the world you’re that much closer to…

San Diego Opera’s crowdfunding campaign has strong start

San Diego Opera’s crowdfunding campaign has strong start

Mike Boehm | LA Times | April 29, 2014 – San Diego Opera announced Tuesday that its bid to make crowdfunding a key to its survival had brought in $328,475 since last Friday, nearly a third of the online and telephone campaign’s goal of raising $1 million by May 19. Opera spokesman Edward Wilensky said that 544 households had pledged that sum as of mid-afternoon Tuesday, for an average gift of $604. That leaves $671,575 to be raised in three weeks. Opera officials have said the money is crucial to mounting a 2015 season that would differ substantially from the past approach, which called for…

Linking your Crowdfunding raise with a Charity drive

Linking your Crowdfunding raise with a Charity drive

CrowdFundBeat News Wire By PAULNIEDERER on FEBRUARY 22, 2014 The Veronica Mars film crowdfunding raise has added a new “charity” dimension to it’s progress so far. A recap first though starting with the Kickstarter raise. Kristen Bell’s / Veronica Mars charity raise follows. Story: Veronica Mars was a TV show that aired between 2004 to 2007; Kristen Bell played the title character. The show developed a cult of devout followers but was cancelled after just three seasons. The devout followers yearned for Veronica Mars to either get picked up again, or for the characters to return for an encore in a movie. After several years,…

Four Noble Truths of Crowdfunding & Eight Paths to Crowdfunding Success

Four Noble Truths of Crowdfunding & Eight Paths to Crowdfunding Success

By John T. Trigonis Indiegogo Back in my university days, I studied a great deal of Eastern philosophy and even taught general, but weighty lessons in Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism in my “past life” as a humanities professor. This taught me just about everything I know about life, the universe and everything. Interestingly enough, it also taught me all I know about crowdfunding. Whereas my book Crowdfunding for Filmmakers illustrates the keys to successful crowdfunding from a Taoist perspective, here I present crowdfunding from a Buddhist point of view. So to help us attain crowdfunding Nirvana, here are the Four Noble Truths of Crowdfunding, which are much more…

Rabbl, Crowdfunding Service For Concert Hitting the News

New York City Opera in Tough Straits after a Try at Crowdfunding

New York City Opera in Tough Straits after a Try at Crowdfunding

With a reputation for feistiness and innovation, the 70-year-old New York City Opera said this week that it needs to explore its options in light of the fact that it has failed to meet its stated goal to raise $7 million by Monday. Part of that was to have been raised on Kickstarter , but that part of the campaign, which had a goal of $1 million, has only raised $175,602 as of Friday morning at 9 a.m. The overall shortfall may cause the company to suspend the rest of this season, at the very least. See the related Video On Crowdfunding.Tv http://crowdfundbeat.com/video/?p=3861 The $7 million goal…

“Hollywood Will Permanently Adopt Crowdfunding”

“Hollywood Will Permanently Adopt Crowdfunding”

Indiegogo co-founder Danae Ringelmann doesn’t think it will be long until every studio in town is taking advantage of the crowdfunding model not just to raise an audience, but also to raise money, for their their own blockbuster ambitions. “Its not that far away, actually,” Ringelmann said at TheWrap’s Media Leadership Conference, TheGrill, Tuesday at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. “What we are going to see is studios recognizing the value of unleashing a fan base early before the film comes out, as a tactic to actually identify social influencers online.” “The way they will dabble in this,” she said,” is carve out a…

How Crowdfunding Tells the Story of a Hollywood Legend

How Crowdfunding Tells the Story of a Hollywood Legend

By Robert J. Mullins CFB Sr. Staff Writer: The classic Hollywood image of the film industry was parodied in the 1992 film “The Player,” in which Tim Robbins plays a studio executive constantly being pitched movie ideas like “It’s ‘Out of Africa’ meets ‘Pretty Woman,’” or “’Ghost’ meets ‘Manchurian Candidate.’” But today, you don’t have to grovel before a studio exec, you can just go online and pitch to the crowd. Film is one of the most active categories of crowdfunding tracked by the major platforms such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo and others. But the proliferation of film and video pitches to the crowd means those…

TIFF ’13: The crowdfunding of “Hondros”

At the TIFF Doc Conference yesterday (September 11), Greg Campbell, director of Hondros: A Life in Frames, shared his practical tips for a successful Kickstarter campaign. The film’sKickstarter campaign ran for 30 days in July and August, and had a goal of US$30,000, which was raised in just four days. At the end of its campaign, it raised almost triple that, with a final tally totaling $90,000. As an author by trade, Campbell told the assembled audience that he approached crowdfunding with…

Sylvester Stallone and John Herzfeld make $250,000 crowdfunding bid to save latest film

Sylvester Stallone and John Herzfeld make $250,000 crowdfunding bid to save latest film

Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone has asked the general public to save his new film, Reach Me, to the tune of $250,000 (£160,000) after the project fell into financial difficulties. Instead of folding production when one of the film’s main investors dropped out during principal photography, the director John Herzfeld and Stallone launched a campaign on the increasingly popular crowdfunding site, Kickstarter. Launched two days ago, they have raised just under $4,000 so far. There are 28 days remaining for the total sum of money to be pledged. Reach Me is a comedy-drama featuring an eclectic group of individuals brought together by a self-help book. Stallone…

Historic Theatre seeks online crowdfunding for a digital upgrade

Historic Theatre seeks online crowdfunding for a digital upgrade

It’s just a novelty. It’s never going to last. Or will it? That question has dogged every movie-technology upgrade since silents became talkies and black-and-white went Technicolor. And that’s the question dogging a timeless movie-going couple in a frankly hilarious Kickstarter video — a so-called “Kigstarter” video — posted by downtown Vancouver’s historic Kiggins movie theater. The Kiggins is looking for an $85,000 kick from Kickstarter — which means you — by Monday if it is to join the 21st century and upgrade its movie-showing equipment from celluloid film to digital. It’s not an elective decision, according to Kiggins owner Dan Wyatt. Wyatt said the…
