YouTube video production meets crowdfunding

YouTube video production meets crowdfunding

Crowdfunding has become a viable way for budding entrepreneurs to jumpstart a project, charity or the like. Kickstarter, Indiegogo, GoFundme and Crowdrise are just a few of the many services that use the power of the people (and their pockets) to help smaller businesses and causes succeed. Other people, mostly musical or visual artists, however, are harnessing YouTube to share their work with the world. With more than 1 billion visitors a month and some significant success stories to date (ever hear of Justin Bieber?) YouTube seems a natural place to showcase talent on a shoestring budget. But what if you want to make a…

Hollywood Harnesses Crowdfunding Potential to Raise Resources for Charity

Hollywood Harnesses Crowdfunding Potential to Raise Resources for Charity

Nonprofits like Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation are benefiting from the power of millions of engaged web surfers. When Samuel L. Jackson was looking to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, he turned to Prizeo.com to create a sticky message. In a bid to lift the “please give” plea above the din, the website and the notoriously foul-mouthed actor launched an accompanying video post of Jackson reading a Breaking Bad monologue. The video went viral, and the effort raised $170,000 for Alzheimer’s disease. Similarly, Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation teamed up with eBay last year, looking for an untapped way to raise money…

A rare look into crowdfunding in Japan: Interview with video game – Monken – creators

A rare look into crowdfunding in Japan: Interview with video game – Monken – creators

Original Article/Interview from IndieGames: Team Grand Slam, a collection of veteran Japanese developers behind the upcoming free-to-play Monken, recently ran a successful crowdfunding campaign on a Japanese platform called Campfire. They raised just under ¥2.5 million ($25,000 USD) for the development of a game they plan to release under a Creative Commons license. That may not seem like much money compared to the amounts raised by developers like Double Fine and Obsidian, but it’s the largest amount raised for a game on this Japanese crowdfunding site to date. We mentioned this back in March, but Monken is an upcoming free-to-play game in which the player is fighting terrorists – with a crane.…

How to convince skeptical backers to support your campaign – CFB Contributor CrowdCrux

“The fact is that objections are good. Objections indicate interest. Successful sales have twice as many objections as unsuccessful sales.” – Brian Tracy, bestselling author of The Psychology of Selling Don’t you just hate objections? Why can’t we just get what we want with no hassle? Say you’ve just spent thirty minutes pouring your heart out, trying to get your family excited about this awesome new project you just launched on Kickstarter. It seems like no matter what you say or how passionately you say it, they’ll come back with something like, “Yea, but I don’t want my credit card to be online,” or “So when…

Interview with Tile Founders about Crowdfunding $1,000,000 for community driven device – HackThings

Interview with Tile Founders about Crowdfunding $1,000,000 for community driven device – HackThings

Tile is a tiny Bluetooth LE radio that you can attach to anything. It’s not the first to do this, but it’s very small, very elegant, inexpensive and it comes with two key differentiators. First, it lasts a year and there’s no need (or ability) to change the batteries. You just exchange them for new Tiles at the end of the year. Second, Tile taps the community of Tile app users to create a kind of universal lost and found. If any device running the Tile app happens across a Tile that’s been marked as lost, it will automatically (and anonymously) notify the lost Tile’s owner of its…

Hollywood’s Adam Corolla heads to FundAnything & Chief Creative Officer Brad Wyman talks about funding film

Adam Corolla doesn’t pull punches about the kinds of folks you have to go to to get a Hollywood movie made. “Most of those guys are idiots and they’re pompous and they make crap,” said the podcast king and former star of The Man Showand Loveline. “I got tired of dealing with these idiots.” Instead, he’s taken to Donald Trump-connected crowdfunding site FundAnything to raise money for Road Hard, the movie he wants to make about down-on-their-luck comics. “Instead of begging these idiots…I thought, let’s just take it to the people,” he said. And so far, he’s had success, raising $665,300 of the $1 million he’s shooting for, with 26 days left in the…

Crowdfund Site taps into Celebrity Star Power

Crowdfund Site taps into Celebrity Star Power

A crowdfunding company in Santa Monica is betting Donald Trump, Adam Carolla and other celebrities can convince their fans to open their wallets. FundAnything, launched in May, plans to compete with big-name crowdfunding companies such as Kickstarter Inc. and Indiegogo Inc. by having the rich and famous promote fundraising campaigns. It wants to become the crowdfunding site of choice for celebrity-led projects. Founder Bill Zanker said celebrities will introduce crowdfunding – Internet fundraising – to the millions of Americans who haven’t heard of it. “The hipster community has embraced crowdfunding, but most Americans don’t know what it is,” Zanker said. “I’m saying let’s bring it…

Museums take up crowdfunding

Museums such as the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and the Currie Dinosaur Museum in Grand Prairie, Alta., have turned recently to crowdfunding to raise money for programs, acquisitions and new construction. Crowdfunding sites such as Indiegogo and Kickstarter have a proven track record at raising funds for individual artists through online donations from fans, often in return for small rewards, such as a free CD or a bit part in a film production. That success has attracted the attention of larger institutions, which are eager to tap any potential source of donors. The Smithsonian recently began a crowdfunding campaign on San Francisco-based site Razoo.com to…

Crowd Funding Comes to Northern Kenya in Support of Women Entrepreneurs

Crowd-based funding via the Internet has taken off, with no end in sight to its popularity. One report claimed a staggering 81% growth in the industry in 2012, with 2.7 billion dollars raised for start-up projects ranging from innovative flashlight designs to experimental landmine clearance equipment. This year that number is expected to nearly double to 5.1 billion. Nonprofits have taken notice. A recent crowd-funding campaign shows that the movement has even reached Northern Kenya and some of the poorest women in the world via The BOMA Project. BOMA helps women to start small businesses in their rural villages and mentors them to ensure success.…

GoFundMe, Facebook help people raise cash for wants, needs

Brenda Lynn plays with her two-and-a-half year old son, Kaleo… (Ricardo Ramirez Buxeda,…) February 1, 2013|By Walter Pacheco, Orlando Sentinel Brenda Lynn says her autistic 3-year-old son, Kaleo, hardly speaks, and his inability to express himself frustrates him — except when using his speech therapist’s iPad. “The iPad really controlled the tantrums and helped him communicate. I tried to get him one, but I couldn’t afford it on my own,” said the unemployed 39-year-old Orlando mom. “I applied for grants, but I wasn’t lucky enough.” So she turned to Facebook and GoFundMe.com, a so-called crowdfunding website that allows people to solicit cash for personal causes.…
