Crowdfunding USA: National Press Club

PRESS RELEASE

5th of May 2016 WASHINGTON DC –

Celebrating its third year, CrowdfundBeat Media is hosting the much acclaimed DC Crowdfunding Conference at the Capitol’s National Press Club on 5-6 May 2016.   With an industry still in development, the Conference will bring together thought-leaders, practitioners, and pundits, discussing some of the new chapters in the Crowdfunding playbook, such as Regulation A+ and the implementation of Title III of the JOBS Act, namely crowdfund investing for non-accredited investors.   Crowdfunding, or more generally described as Marketplace Finance, has seen exponential growth in many areas, such as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Consumer credit, Small-to-Medium Enterprise (SME) lending, and now mortgage lending: all comprising increasing competitive challenges to the commercial banking industry.  Now collectively over a $15 billion industry, the Conference will explore what 2015 brought forward, as well as the expectations of 2016 and beyond.

No longer a cottage industry with few small players, this has been a story of expanding legitimacy and growth, with many of the largest financial institutions now playing direct and indirect roles, watching nimble startup platforms approaching consumers and small businesses with more desirable offerings and experiences.  Whether the use of technology reduces the cost of financial intermediation, or enabling smaller transactions to get done efficiently and profitably, the “crowd landscape” continues to unfold.  The Conference is honored to host an illustrious group of speakers and panelists, to assess, debate, and prognosticate the elements of the market and its practices.    Included in the roster of speakers are:  David Rose, founder of GUST, one of the leading global angel-startup intermediary platforms; Douglas Ellenoff, the preeminent attorney within the industry (Ellenoff Grossman & Schole LLP); Dara Albright, an early voice in the crowdfunding movement now delightful provocateur on market structures and disciplines; and Richard Swart, the erudite academic and researcher, now CEO of NextGen Crowdfunding.

The conference will entail a series of keynotes and presentations, coupled with various engaging panel discussions.  Topics will comprise the deployment and receptivity of Regulation A+, aka the mini-IPO, the anticipated boom (or bust) of Title III crowdfunding, the maturation of the real estate crowdfund syndication model, and of course, an open discussion of what will come next in this segment of financial technology.  As the JOBS Act is now four years old, we hope to assess its success in laying the foundation of more democratic capital formation and investing.

Lastly, CrowdfundBeat is proud to announce its list of sponsors:   VIA Folio, Ellenoff Grossman & Schole LLP, CrowdEngine, ComputerShare, iDisclose, OTC Markets, CrowdKey, Allegiancy, Trowbridge Sidoti LLP, Flaster Greenberg, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP, and Taylor | English, and REMARQ Corporation.
