ISHBEL MACLEOD |6 MARCH 2014 | TheDrum – A year after the launch of its Vimeo on Demand service, the Vimeo platform has taken to SXSW to reveal a $10m global expansion of support for creators selling their work directly online.
This $10m will include expansion of Vimeo’s crowdfunding program, expansion of the film festival program, and Vimeo PRO Grants.
“Building on our early content investment programs, we’re excited to announce this broad expansion of resources to support creators,” said Kerry Trainor, CEO, Vimeo. “The direct distribution movement gains momentum every day, and we are fully committed to empowering creators with a vibrant alternative to the ad-dominated online video ecosystem for monetizing content.”
As part of the promotion of the anniversary, and of the commitment Vimeo has to content, a screening of ‘The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz’ and the world premiere of DamNation presented by Patagonia will take place in the Vimeo Theatre at SXSW.
