Actor embraces Tourette Syndrome, launches crowdfunding campaign for new film to spread awareness
NEW YORK, Jan. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — New York City based actor and filmmaker, William Day, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Rocket Hub to fund his production, Jack & Carol, a short film about outward confidence and internal inhibitions. With support from the National Tourette Syndrome Association, Day seeks to raise $10,000 before the end ofJanuary 2014.
“This project is very personal to me and something for which I have a great deal of passion.” said William Day, who was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at age 12. “Trying to succeed as an actor has been difficult. While my confidence as an actor and writer are undeniable, my inhibitions about my Tourette Syndrome have hindered me throughout my career. Recently, I have decided to embrace this disorder and the story I want to tell is my own.”
William Day developed this project in hopes to change the way Tourettes is portrayed in film and how people understand the disorder. Typically displayed as sudden outburts of profanity in movies like Deuce Bigelow and 500 Days of Summer, Day seeks to show a different side of the disorder, one that’s more nuanced and less obvious. Jack & Carol is not just a film about Tourettes. It’s a love story for anyone who has ever felt insecure about their own hidden afflictons.
Jack & Carol is charming piece, yet hauntingly poignant. It will not only be a beautiful cinematic endeavor, but also one that creates awareness and education for those that may be in the dark about Tourette Syndrome and the internal struggles it causes. This film is a simple story about a seemingly confident and arrogant man of leisure. Yet, as we move closer into his mind, we find that he has a secret. One that inhibits him on a daily basis. Can he overcome this inhibition in order to meet the woman of his dreams?
Crowdfunding enables people with great ideas to ask the general public for the funding they need to create their vision. Contributions for Jack & Carol will be used for all New York City-based production expenses, including location fees, cast and crew, wardrobe, post-production, and marketing.
The film is written by Day and will be shot by acclaimed cinematographer, Victor Tadashi Suarez.
