By Katherine Wei TAIPEI, Taiwan — Sometimes the last stepping-stone that dreamers need to turn themselves into achievers is filthy lucre, a thing many feel can “taint” their dreams. But for many, yet-to-be-paid bills are stacked even higher than the blueprints for their next big projects, a fact especially true for those who are mapping out a future based solely on creativity, an intangible that even President Ma is encouraging the nation to invest in.

As much as you may wish to deny it, your designs or creations will need that oh-so-common something — money — to be replicated en masse and introduced in ways appealing to customers.
We all know the smart dreamer would be able to secure that last boost that would take them to, well, maybe not Easy Street, but to the next level in developing their fantasies. But that last step proves challenging to many. This is where the idea of “crowdfunding” comes in. A collective effort by individuals who pool their money to support efforts or plans initiated by other people or organizations, the concept has been long popular in Western countries but until lately was still relatively new to Taiwan.
