BY ALICE LYNTON , Having successfully met its Kickstarter goal of $200,000 and closed out its campaign with CAD $256,217, Hinterland isn’t ready to call it day for The Long Dark. The developer will continue to accept pledges on its website indefinitely – just like Star Citizen, which has attracted over $23 million using the same strategy.
Hinterland has elected to stick to its stretch goals, which means those who back the project by essentially filing a pre-order can help unlock additional features like additional languages – with more yet to be announced. A couple of optional targets were hit towards the end of the Kickstarter, actually – double the amount of music, and a downloadable graphic novel.
“We couldn’t be happier. We have nearly 7,000 incredible supporters at the heart of a growing Hinterland community. It’s been an intense time, and the team deserves a rest, but we’re ready to get back to working on the game. Expectations and anticipation couldn’t be higher. We’re focused and determined to create something that lives up to those expectations,” creative director Raphael van Lierop said.
