by Devin Thorpe, At what is likely the largest crowdfunding conference of the year, Congressman Patrick McHenry was presented with the 2013 “Crowdfunding Visionary Award” on Tuesday morning, October 15, 2013. Zak Cassady-Dorion, co-founder of Crowdfund Capital Advisors, who was recognized last year with Sherwood Neiss and Jason Best, joined Ruth Hedges to present the award. Hedges is the organizer of the Global Crowdfunding Convention and Bootcamp in Las Vegas.
The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the crowdfunding industry. Cassady-Dorion noted that his partners Neiss and Best are presenting at a global entrepreneurship conference in Kuala Lampur where the world is discussing crowdfunding. He then lauded the Congressman for his work in advancing crowdfunding legislation and regulation.
McHenry is a Republican from North Carolina’s tenth district at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A conservative who has been identified as a member of the Tea Party, McHenry led abipartisan effort to get his 2011 bill “The Entrepreneur Access To Capital Act,” which was later incorporated into the JOBS Act, through Congress. The House of Representatives passed the bill with 97 percent approval; subsequently the Senate passed it and the bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama on April 5, 2012.
